Bucket list trip
We were blessed to visit Franklins BBQ in Austin.
Let me share a few thoughts before answering the BIG question,
"is it really THAT good?"
Our April 1st trip to Franklin BBQ was no joke ;0)
The Employees,
We talked to were delightfully well trained and projected that hipster image
tattoos, piercings, hair colors and beards….
FUN people.
Arron Franklin was on location but we didn't see him.
Likely if he comes out of the kitchen/office it takes an hour to get out of the dinning room
everyone would want a picture
The Line
We arrived at 830 AM for the 11 AM opening, there were 30 people in front of us.
Everyone we met was in a festive mood. Not all were BBQ fanatics,
some just happened to be in Austin and were told "you have to go"
We actually got into the resturant at 1215 ish
met with classic country music,
tables that would have been at home in my grand mothers kitchen
and wonderful smells
oh so wonderful
I was surprised to learn Franklins only serves to 300 to 350 a day
Then they run out
Ordering
I posted the videos I made below
We ordered lots of food for the InLaws out OutLaws
You can get wrapped and bagged brisket for take home if your in the early group
Wrapping in paper and shopping bags wasn't the best way to get the food home
The Food
The Sides
The potato salad and coleslaw were outstanding, the pinto beans not my favorite style
The Meats
Ribs un sauced well smoked full sized spares... good
Turkey, Smoked sliced breast moist …Outstanding
eat the turkey there it drys out quickly
Links, nothing special.. good but wouldn't order again
Brisket Smoked in that distinctive Texas style post oak flavor… Outstanding
I've had brisket in many styles and enjoyed them all in their own way
Franklins is a outstanding representation of the Texas style
All in all it was a great experience
Check that off the bucket list
